Ruth L. Boraas, age 86, of Wanamingo died on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Minneola Lutheran Church with Pastor Sarah Nietz officiating. Burial will be in the spring. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruth Lenore Hilan was born on February 12, 1927 in Belle Creek Township, Goodhue County, MN to Henry and Clara (nee Kindseth) Hilan. She grew up on the family farm and attended District #156 country school. Ruth graduated from Wanamingo in 1945. She attended and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in 1946. She worked in the Twin Cities area until her marraige. On May 22, 1954 she married Kenneth Boraas at Minneola Lutheran Church. Over the years, Ruth worked as a secretary for Norrie Fredrickson's State Farm Insurance and Wanamingo Lumber Company, waitressed at the Central Café in Wanamingo and clerked at Heaney & Gorman in Goodhue until the late 1970's, when Ruth became a full time homemaker. She was an active member of Minneola Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing the piano, writing and receiving letters, remembering friends birthdays with a card or a song and spending time with family; especially her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her children, David (Linda) Boraas of Goodhue and Marjorie (Don) Shreve of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Kelli Boraas, Andrew Shreve and Heather Shreve; sister, Evy Booth of Minneapolis; nieces and nephews, Pat Booth, Mary Jindra, Russell Booth, Chuck Booth and Tom Booth.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth (2010), parents, Henry (1978) and Clara (1984), three sisters, Margaret (1927), Dorothy (1934) and Irene (1939) and brother-in-law, William Booth (1989).
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Minneola Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund.
