Ruth Bjorlie of Zumbrota, MN, passed away peacefully with her family around her on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the age of 93. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ruth was born Dec. 4, 1922 in Waco, Texas. She was the daughter of Robert and Cora Lewis and had three sisters. After high school she completed business college and worked as a secretary in Waco, TX, Mahnomen, MN and Forest City, IA. On Aug. 30, 1947 she married Kermit M. Bjorlie and they raised 3 children. They were married for nearly 69 years. Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker, volunteer and was an ever-present loving wife and mom.
She is survived by her husband, Kermit; her sister, Edna (Frank) Yowell of Waco, TX; two sons: Jon (Kate) of Edina, MN and Mark (Cheryl) of Austin, MN; daughter, Carol (Steve) O'Neill of Northfield, MN; eight grandchildren: Kaia, Jack and Lucas Bjorlie; Thomas (Rebecca) and Stacy Bjorlie; Cullen (Breanna), Erin and Ian (Martha) O'Neill; and four great-grandchildren: Lydia and Annika Bjorlie, and Braeden and Claire O'Neill. We will miss her dearly.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. Lewis and Cora (Barker) Lewis, and two sisters, Alice and Mary.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 W. 3rd St. Zumbrota, MN 55992 (507) 732-7303; www.urlchurch.org with Rev. Dr. Margaret J. Pleiss-Sippola officiating. There will be a visitation at the church at 1:00pm immediately preceding the service. Interment will be on Fri. Apr. 22 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to United Redeemer Lutheran Church. Arrangements are being handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel of Zumbrota.
