Russell W. Postier, age 87, of Pine Island, died on Friday, December 21, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born on November 27, 1925, in Oronoco Township, Olmsted County, to Raymond and Hazel (Moulton) Postier. Russell attended country school in Oronoco. On February 29, 1944 Russell entered the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Saratoga in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. On May 7, 1946 he was honorably discharged and he returned to the Pine Island area. On February 25, 1949, he married Mary J. Ryan in Pine Island. The couple lived in Douglas, where they raised their five children. Russell worked at Peganhart, Larson, and Fraiser Construction as an operating engineer. In 1999, the couple moved to Pine Island. Russell most recently resided at Madonna Meadows Assisted Living in Rochester. Russell was a member of the U.S. Navy and the Pine Island American Legion, Charles Cowden Post 184 for over 65 years. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and going up north.
Russell is survived by his sons, Steve, David (Debra), both of Pine Island; daughters, Joy (James) Alexander, Teresa Postier, both of Rochester, Nancy (Richard) Breen of Viola; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Lorraine Wondrow of Rochester; brothers, Allen of Rochester, and Lowell of Louisiana.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife Mary who died on December 10, 2007; grandsons, Ryan and Brad Postier; sister, Beverly Aske; brothers, Gerald, and Dale.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2012 at New Haven Township Hall in Douglas with Pastor Terje Hausken officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Center Grove Cemetery.
