Russell H. Lunde age 66, of Zumbrota, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, St. Mary's Campus after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. Funeral service will be on Friday, December 16, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church - Minneola Township at 11:00 A.M with Pastor Randall Kuznicki officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel from 4:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Russell Harvey Lunde was born on March 10, 1950 in Red Wing to Monrad and Margot (Schwendicke) Lunde. He was baptized at Lands Lutheran Church and confirmed at Saint Paul Lutheran Church. In high school Russ started working for Lueck Implement and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1968. After graduating Russ started working at Methodist Hospital, he married Deborah Hinz on June 17, 1972 at St. John's Lutheran Church - Minneola Township and they made their home in rural Zumbrota. Russ also worked for the Farm & Home store and Mid America Dairymen. For the past 16 years, Russ worked at Treasure Island as a security officer. Russ retired in March of 2015. Russ was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church - Minneola Township.
Russ enjoyed his grandkids, family and friend gatherings, hosting parties and dances in his barn, traveling, hunting, fishing and playing cribbage. But most of all, making people laugh and smile with his awesome sense of humor.
Russ is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Debbie; two children, daughter, Megan Lunde of Zumbrota and son, Ryan (Melissa) Lunde of St. Cloud; their children, Corban, Zara, Xavier and a grandson on the way; mother, Margot Lunde of Zumbrota; two sisters, Bev Pike of Fountain Hills, AZ and Barb Sitsch of St. Johnsbury, VT; one brother, Michael (Nadeen) Lunde of Pine Island; brothers-in-law, Tom (Deb) Hinz of Zumbrota and Scott Hinz of Louisville, KY and many extended family.
Russ was preceded in death by his father, Monrad Lunde and brother-in-law, Michael Hinz.
