Russell Breuer

Russell William Breuer, 81, of Lake City, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha, Minnesota. He was born June 9, 1928 to William and Emma (Peters) Breuer at home in Hay Creek Township in Goodhue County. He attended St. John's Parochial School in Lake City, he attended the University of Minnesota - St. Paul Campus School of Agriculture and graduated in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sargent, enlisting February 14, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was honorably discharged on February 13, 1953 in Fort Carson, Colorado. Russell was married to Shirley Schnell on June 5, 1954 in Hayfield, Minnesota. After they were married they farmed on his family farm until retiring in 1988 when he and Shirley moved to Lake City. Russell was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, he also served on the church council for several terms, he was a member of the American Legion Post #110, where he served as Commander for many years. He served on the creamery board and as a town clerk. Russell also served on the Wabasha County Fair Board. Russell enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and watching Twins Games.

Russell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley; four daughters, Valerie (David) Ahlers of Wabasha, Donna (Dale) Lidberg of Alexandra, Tracy Breuer of Rochester, and Pam Breuer of Lake City; two granddaughters, Michele (Grant) Klennert and Mandy Ahlers; a brother, Ralph (Marlene) Breuer of Lake City. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Daniel Kroll officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may also call one hour before the services at the church. Military honors will be handled by the Lake City VFW Post #8729 and American Legion post #110. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
