Roy Mehrkens

Roy George Henry Mehrkens, age 86 of Goodhue passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with Pastor Martin Weigand officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the church and will continue on Tuesday morning for one hour prior to the service.
Roy George Henry Mehrkens was born to George and Sophia (Nehring) Mehrkens on August 2, 1930 in Red Wing, MN. He was baptized on August 31, 1930 and confirmed on June 6, 1943, both at Grace Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. Roy attended four years at Goodhue County School #102 and two years at Grace Lutheran School, before passing the county graduation test. On August 8, 1953 he married Alice Rosalie Kluth at Dupree, SD. Together they dairy farmed and raised their four children. Roy served his church for many years as an Elder, Treasurer and held several other offices. Roy also served on the board of directors for the elevator board for many years. Roy was a dairy farmer most of his life. After retiring from farming he went to work for Fulton Fabriciating. Roy enjoyed traveling, camping, going to Polka Fest, woodworking, hunting and target shooting.
Roy is survived by his wife, Alice; four children, Howard (Tavana) Mehrkens of Lake City, Connie (Richard) Undeberg of Chatfield, Richard (Peggy) Mehrkens of Goodhue and Gary Mehrkens of Rochester; ten grandchildren, Stacy Thuman, Kevin, Jonathan and Lincoln Mehrkens, Brandon and Joshua Undeberg, Katie Finley, Ryan Undeberg, Angie Brogan and Nathan Undeberg; seven step grandchildren, Wendy Frick, Josh, Ashley and Cody Wendt, Joshua and Richard Lutjen and Whitney Nass; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Holst of Red Wing; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran School or Grace Lutheran Church.
