Roy Knuth, born June 6, 1943, graduated from Rochester's John Marshall high school, and studied chemistry in college. He retired from the Mayo Clinic at the age of 66, after 47 beloved years as a laboratory technician. He kept active by reading voraciously, studying military strategy, and singing for many years with the Rochester Male Chorus. Having nearly achieved Masterclass chess status, Roy enjoyed competing in city and state tournaments with the Rochester Chess Club. He never went anywhere without his chess set and books. He had a vast knowledge of American and world history and admired music by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.
Roy entered the heavenly body on July 29th, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital after years of quietly struggling with myasthenia gravis. He is survived by his wife Miriam, his sons Alan Knuth, Kahlil (Jessica) Knuth, Nicholas (Colleen) Knuth, and Jai Knuth, three grandchildren Heinrik, Gabrielle, and Adelie, and his sister Pearl Ostenvik (Tom Wilson). Roy's family will have a small private reception to celebrate his life.
