Roy David Black, 95, of Welch died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Deercrest. He was born on November 23, 1918 in Welch to Richard and Erma (Bogue) Black. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School and went on to attend the Minneapolis Institute of Technology. Roy served in the US Army during WWII. Following the war, he returned to the family farm where he worked until his retirement in 2003. He was married to Theresa Odman; she died in 1951. Roy was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and reading, especially about war history.
He is survived by his brother, Loren Black of Welch; two nephews, Jerry (Laura) and Jim (Yvonne) Black, both of Red Wing; three nieces, Sandra (John) Humphrey of Oakdale, Sharleen (Barry) Gish of Woodbury, and Ada Seeker of Red Wing; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and a sister, Hazel Bowen.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing with Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
