Rosalie Elise (Storvick) Miller

October 1, 1931 — December 15, 2020

Rosalie (Rosie) Miller of Zumbrota, MN and Faribault, MN died peacefully December 15, 2020 surrounded by her family.
Rosalie Elise Storvick was born October 1, 1931 in Mason City, Iowa to Helen and Roy Storvick. The Storvick home was filled with music, with both parents and all three of her siblings (David, Olin, and Sonja) playing many musical instruments and singing in choir.
After graduation from Wadena High in 1949, Rosalie studied music, education, and English at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, earning her bachelor’s degree in 1953. At Luther, she was the featured performer of the Luther Symphony and Orchestra during her senior year. Her musical talents would also send her to perform in Europe in 1952 via the maiden voyage of the S.S. United States.
Rosie was married to Elden Miller from 1954-1970 and they had four children; Steve, Susan, Renee and Ross.
In 1970, Rosie began working full time for Zumbrota High School as a music teacher having previously taught in Ada, MN and Goodhue, MN. She was a very gifted teacher.
Rosie shared her musical abilities selflessly with her own children as they struggled to learn to play piano and other instruments. She had students both in and out of the classroom and sang with and accompanied the church choir. Rosie also played the flute and piccolo with the Zumbrota Community Band leading to many wonderful friendships. Her talent playing the flute and piccolo also led to her playing with the Rochester Symphony Orchestra.
Rosie’s favorite past times included watching football, spending time at the lake with family, refinishing antiques, playing cards and sharing her gift of music. She had such a zest for living life, a terrific sense of humor and touched so many lives. In her last days, we heard wonderful tributes from caregivers and friends, including that she was a “a strong independent woman full of spunk, sass, and fire”; “had no filter”; “one of a kind” and stories of her “authentic contagious laugh." She was truly one of a kind and we will miss her dearly.
Rosie is survived by her children, Susan (David) Miller-Hagre, Renee (Robin) Nielsen, and Ross (Kristina) Miller; grandchildren, Andrew (Angela) Miller; Alec Nielsen, Abby (Bryce Tuma) Nielsen, Rachel (Paul) Kirihara; Nadya, Anatol, and Dmitri Miller; and great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Kjersten and Evelyn Miller; sister, Sonja Hagestuen; sister-in-law, Sylvia Storvick; and many nieces and nephews. Rosalie was preceded in death by her son, Steven; mother and father, Helen and Roy Storvick; brothers, Olin Storvick and David Storvick; sister-in-law, Ruth Storvick; and brother-in law Donald Hagestuen.
A private family funeral will be held at Mahn funeral home in Zumbrota, MN. With the burial following at Zumbrota cemetery.
