Red Wing

Ronald “Ron” James Sherman, 86, of Red Wing, died at his home on Thursday, October 31, 2024. He was born on August 6, 1938, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Basil and Pearl (Miller) Sherman. He lived in Frazee, Minnesota where he attended high school. He then continued his schooling at St. Cloud State University. Ron enlisted in the US Air Force serving for four years. On August 24, 1963, he was united in marriage to Verone Nelson in St. Cloud. They lived in the Twin Cities where he worked for Honeywell for several years. In 1973, they moved to Red Wing and he worked at Red Wing Shoe Company until his retirement. After retiring he continued to work for RW Shoe and helped with the building of the “big boot”. He had been a part of the Y’s Men selling Christmas trees and helping build and repair the YMCA’s Camp Pepin. Ron enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage and horseshoes along with tinkering, but most of all being with his family, grandchildren and many friends meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold Locken and Kenneth Sherman.
