Ronald Clifford Allen, 63, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Veterans Administration Health Care System in Minneapolis, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 2, 1955, in Wyandotte, Michigan to Roy and Cleatrice (Simpson) Allen. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and received his Master's and Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology from California State University, and also received his Doctorate degree in Psychology from the University of South Dakota. On May 13, 1977 he enlisted in the US Army and served 31 years, receiving the rank of Full-Bird Colonel before his military retirement on May 2, 2008. During his military career, he was stationed in Afghanistan from 2003 to 2004 and Iraq from 2006 to 2007. He received numerous awards and ribbons during his career. On July 31, 1981, he was united in marriage to Sherry Norman in Kings Mountain, NC. They have resided in Red Wing since 1989 where he was a school psychologist for the Red Wing School District. He was currently serving as Goodhue County Commissioner, District 1. He was a long standing member of New River Assembly of God Church, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54, Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post #1218 and the Red Wing Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; three children, Amanda (Erik) Legrey of Pettibone, ND; Clifford (Heather) of Newport Center, VT; and Suzanne (Kevin), and grandchildren Diane, Megan and Raymond Landsverk of Fosston, MN; two brothers, Donald (Debbie) Allen of Lincoln Park, MI and Ken (Michelle) Allen of Lakeview, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be Wednesday April 24, 2019 at 11:00 am at New River Assembly of God Church in Red Wing with Reverend Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Thursday with full military honors. Visitation will take place at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 4:00-7:00 pm with a Legion Prayer Service at 7 pm. Visitation will also be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Minnesota Lion's Vision Foundation.
