Rolin "Mike" Johnson
Rolin H. "Mike" Johnson, 80, of Lake City, Minn., passed away May 10, 2009 in Lake City after a short hospitalization.
Mike was born August 23, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Melker and Jennie Johnson. He attended school in Mound, Minn., received his B.S. in Business Administration from Carthage College, Illinois, and a Masters of Science in Hospital Administration from
Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. During the Korean War, he served as a Staff Sergeant in U.S. Army intelligence.
Mike began his career in hospital administration as an Administrative Resident and then Administrative Assistant at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Wisc. He was the Assistant Director at Newington Children's Hospital, Conn.; Administrator at Luverne Community Hospital, Minn.; Administrator for twenty-one years at Lake City Hospital, Minn.; and CEO and Administrator at St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital in Hillsboro, Wisc. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota Hospital Association and was a certified member of the American College of Healthcare Professionals. He retired in 1990 after thirty-six years in health care administration.
Mike was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Lake City Kiwanis Club, Carnelian Lodge No. 40 Lake City and Scottish Rite of Rochester, an advisor to the Key Club at Lake City High School, served on the Lake City City Council and chaired the City Council's Charter Commission.
He married Corrine Marie Staples on September 7, 1956 in St. Paul, MN. He is survived by his wife, four daughters Deborah Johnson of Dallas, Texas; Jane (William) Bergland of Moorhead, Minn.; Mary (Joseph) Pohlkamp of Baxter, Minn.; Nancy (Andrew) Ewald of Hopkins, Minn.; one son, Michael (Barbara) Johnson of Lake City, Minn.; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents and a sister.
The funeral will be held at 11am Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Darren Paulson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 to 11 at First Lutheran Church. Friends may also call one hour before the services at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church.
