Roland Neal Hansen

[b]Funeral services for Roland N. Hansen will be held Saturday September 27th at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Reverend Rance Settle will officiate. Burial, on Monday, will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Mr. Hansen, 78, of Rochester, died Sunday September 21, 2008 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Roland Neal Hansen was born June 15, 1930 in Minneapolis. Raised in Minneapolis, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Returning to Minneapolis, he completed a program in electrical engineering at Dunwoody Institute. He worked for IBM as an industrial electrician in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the early 1970s he received additional training and became a plant manager with Schumacher Elevators, and then, in the mid-1970s, at Kroger Foods in Rochester. He retired in the mid-1980s. He was well known as an ancient history buff and biblical scholar.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder and sang in the choir. He was also a member of American Legion Post 92 in Rochester, and was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.
He is survived by his daughters, Kris (Greg) Robinson of Lino Lakes, and Gretchen Hansen of Saint Paul; a son, Dave Hansen of Mason City, Iowa; and a brother, Don Hansen of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Hansen.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. If so desired, memorials may be directed to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
