Roland Lester Dunkle
Roland "Bud" Dunkle, age 84, of Pine Island passed away November 21, 2010 at the Pine Haven Care Center. Bud was born November 2, 1926 in Flint, MI to Norman and Mae (Ecklund) Dunkle. He grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Washburn High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Ticonderoga Aircraft Carrier, until being honorably discharged in June of 1946. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years and then transferred to the Dunwoody Institute where he became an electrician. In 1952 he married Margie Halverson in Minneapolis. They moved to Pine Island and Bud began working at IBM, where he worked for over 30 years until retiring in 1990. He was a member of United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a counselor for the youth group. Bud was the chairman of the Pine Island School Board from 1971-1977. He was also a member of the Pine Island Lions, International Order of Odd Fellows, Toastmasters, and the Oronoco Kiwanis. He enjoyed volunteering at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital and fishing with his friends and family.
Bud is survived by his wife, Margie of Pine Island; daughter, Connie of Oregon; son, David of Rochester; grandson, Damien; granddaughters, Kira, Courtney, Colony, Heather, Jennifer, and Melinda; great-grandsons, Keegan and Mason; brother, Ralph of Rosemount; sisters, Jean Rasmussen of Bloomington and Doris Brown of Savage; six nephews and six nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan, brothers, Bob and Lloyd.
