Private services and ennichement will be held at a later date for Roger Young. Mr. Young, 91, of Rochester, died Sunday April 4, 2010 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester. The ennichement will occur at Oakwood Cemetery.
Roger Roscoe Young was born March 19, 1919 in Brookings, South Dakota, the son of Alfred and Janet Young. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Europe during World War II. He would remain in the military reserves until 1979. Following active duty, he returned to Brookings and completed his education, graduating from South Dakota State College there. On February 23, 1946 he married Dorothy Miller in Rochester. Mr. Young was a dairy equipment and supplies salesman to area dairy farmers. For a while, he operated a turkey farm near Eyota. Returning to Rochester, he opened a real estate business, and then became a carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for more than twenty years, retiring in the early 1980s. He also owned a motel near Mark Twain Lake in Hannibal, Missouri.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, and was a member of the VFW in Eyota.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Young, of Rochester; and two daughters, Pamela Young of Rochester, and Kimberly Young of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rex Young, and a sister, Lucille Gardner.
