Roger Alan Stolley, 69, passed away at his home on March 17, 2025. Roger loved a good gathering and waited for the house to be filled with all five of his children before passing on to his next adventure. Roger was born in Clinton, Iowa to Martin and Marjorie Stolley, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1974 and took a job as an apprentice pressman at the Clinton Herald shortly thereafter. This seeded a long career in the printing industry. He married his “girl” Maureen Stolley on August 30, 1974. Roger and Maureen spent their lives together in Clinton, Cedar Rapids, and West Des Moines, Iowa; Woodbury, Northfield, and Red Wing, Minnesota. Roger worked at the Cedar Rapids Gazette and St. Paul Pioneer Press, as well as other presses, before a 19-year tenure as the plant manager at Cannon Valley Printing in Northfield, Minnesota where he worked until his retirement in 2017. Roger loved to travel with Maureen. They traveled throughout the U.S., including Hawaii, and ventured overseas with a visit to Germany. After the purchase of an RV, Roger and Maureen not only traveled to new states and landmarks but participated in building crews at Habitat for Humanity sites, attended several annual Winnebago Grand National Rallies, and were fortunate to view both recent total solar eclipses. Roger was well known for his love of muscle cars, especially Ford Mustangs. He restored and showed several classic Mustangs over the years and was an active member of Twin Cities Mustang clubs. Roger really enjoyed dealing in cars; highlighted successes include once “accidentally” buying a Mustang on eBay and being asked not to return to a dealership after driving a particularly hard bargain. His love of cars took him to the Woodward Dream Cruise, the Mecum Auto Auction, and several memorable car club cruises. He took pride in maintaining all of his vehicles with meticulous attention to detail. Roger was a talented and knowledgeable carpenter and particularly enjoyed trim work. Much of the home renovation work throughout Maureen and Roger’s marriage was the product of his skill and the unpaid labor of his children (kids are cost-effective drywall jacks). Roger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Roger is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maureen (McDonnell); children Christine Glaze (Clint) of Escondido, California, Jill-Ann Mark (Robert) of Ellicott City, Maryland; Lynn Tingle (Chris) of Fleming Island, Florida; Nicholas Stolley of Webster, Minnesota; Rebecca Smith (Rodney) of Red Wing, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; brother Ron Stolley (Pat) and sister-in-law Jennifer McDonnell Jensen (Robert). He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Stolley and Marjorie (Stolley) McCarthy, sisters Mary Meyer and Marjorie Schneider, and brother Robert Stolley.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3 at the Church of Saint Joseph in Red Wing, Minnesota with Father Brandon Theisen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 5 at Saint Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lustgarden Foundation for pancreatic cancer research or Mayo Clinic Hospice Care, which provided attentive and thoughtful in-home care for Roger and his family in his last weeks. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
