ROCHESTER - Roger Soma, 71, of Rochester, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 2010) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Roger James Soma was born Feb. 22, 1939 in Austin, MN, to Oscar and Ruth (Moser) Soma. At age 16, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He married Jean A. Kvall in Las Vegas, NV. He worked as an over the road truck driver, a salesman for Clark's Home Fair and Monarch Ranges, International Transport, owner of the Bellchester Tavern, Books Mobile Home Park, Larson Construction, and Rochester Sand and Gravel, retiring in 2001. Roger enjoyed camping, working in his yard, and was an avid NASCAR, Twins, and Vikings fan.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; son Sheldon (Bonita), and daughter Mary (Chuck) Nordine, both of Rochester; three granddaughters; one grandson; fifteen great grandchildren; and his brother, Nordeen, of Rochester. His parents, and many Aunts and Uncles preceded him in death.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
