Roger David Sammon, 87, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 14, 1937, in Faribault, Minnesota to Hilary and Harriet (Curtis) Sammon. He graduated from Faribault High School. On September 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Carol Schultz at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. They resided there until 1968 when they moved to Red Wing. For over 35 years he worked for AT&T as a systems technician until his retirement. He then owned and operated Sammon Communications. Roger was a member of the Church of St. Joseph where he served on the building committee of Holy Family Hall, Knights of Columbus and a past member of the Red Wing Rotary. Roger enjoyed square dancing, boating, traveling and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Carol of 68 years, five children, Cindi (Mike) Simonson of Red Wing, Brett (Jennie) Sammon of Hager City, Bart Sammon of Maple Grove, Jeff of Turtle Lake, WI and Joyce Sahli of Almena, WI; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph (Raye) Sammon, Jr. of Colorado Springs and Jerome “Jerry” (Mary Ann) Sammon of Florida; one sister, Pat Hallman of St. Charles, MO; son-in-law, Darryl (Julie) Dodge of Turtle Lake; sister-in-law, Joan (David) Nasby of Faribault along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jody Dodge.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. Memorials are preferred to St. Croix Hospice.
