A memorial service for Roger J. Hagen, dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather, will be held Thursday June 3rd at 2:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. The Reverend Michael Wuehler will officiate. Inurnment, at a later date, will occur at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hagen, 72, of Rochester, died Tuesday May 25, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Roger Jerome Hagen was born August 3, 1937 in Hixton, Wisconsin, the son of Olaf and Berdine Hagen. He attended school in Hixton, moving to Rochester in his teens, and graduated from Rochester High School in 1955. Following high school, Roger continued to work for a time at the Post Bulletin, and as an apprentice painter. In 1957 he began his career at IBM, where he worked until his retirement in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966. On April 22, 1961, he married Janet Ruegg at the Pine Island United Methodist Church. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church for 48 years, and served in many areas. He was a devoted volunteer at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, and also volunteered his time and talents for Christmas Anonymous and Habitat for Humanity, was a 32 year member of the Eagles' Lodge, and a former member of the DayMaker Kiwanis Club. Roger enjoyed fishing, camping, and was a fan of car racing, Honkers baseball, hockey, and took pleasure in attending concerts and plays. His grandchildren's events were especially held dear.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Hagen, of Rochester; daughters, Diane (Bruce) Nelson of Golden Valley, and Sarah (Tom) Frank of Rochester; a son, Gregg J. Hagen of Saint Paul; 4 grandchildren, Trevor and Jared Nelson, and Sydney and Talon Frank; and two sisters, Jeannette Robinson Mackie and Helen (Lyle) Danielson, both of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Greeno.
Visitation, with no reviewal, will be held Wednesday June 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church, Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, or Seasons Hospice.
