Roger Elmer Diercks, 72, of Red Wing, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family, after a battle with mesothelioma.
Roger was born February 11, 1944, in Red Wing, to Harry and Margaret (Heitman) Diercks and graduated from Goodhue High School. He earned his heating and air conditioning degree from Ferris State University in Michigan and was also in the National Guard Reserves there. Roger had a long career working in the heating and air conditioning field. On July 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda West. He was very active at the YMCA and the First United Methodist Church in Red Wing.
Roger was kind and generous, a special type of person who thought of others first and was always helping others whenever possible. He enjoyed spending free time with his family including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he doted on constantly. He also ran for many years with a dedicated group of friends and he finished many marathons around the country. When he had free time, he also enjoyed travelling, golfing, playing pickle ball, biking, visiting with friends and family and making wine.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Karen and husband Paul Teufer of Woodbury, MN and son Steven and fiancée Jessica Lopez of Woodbury MN; grandchildren Justin Juris of Hastings MN, Kalyn and husband Philip Lyons of South St. Paul MN, and Nathan Teufer; great-grandchildren Vincent Lyons, Evalyn Lyons and Rose Lyons. He is also survived by his siblings, Stanley (Marilyn) Diercks, John (Elaine) Diercks, Edith Milligan, Maxine Wiech, Dean (MaryAnn) Diercks, Marcia (Dean) Luhman, Ruth (Dick) Berg, Jerry (Sue) Diercks, Kathleen (Fran) Jonas and Judy (Dr. Jim) O'Reilly. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Margaret and brothers Richard and Ralph.
Roger's memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with Chaplin Kelley Adelsman officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Belvidere Union Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Home Health Care and Hospice. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
