Robert S. Wallace age 83 of Lake City died Monday at the Lake City Nursing Home. Robert was born February 28, 1923 in Lake City to William & Bertha (Booth) Wallace. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1941and then attended the University of Minnesota until April of 1943 when he entered the Army Air Corps. He served with the 461st Bomb Group in Italy from October 1944 to July of 1945 and completed 30 missions as a radio operator and waist gunner on a B24 Bomber. He was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement. After returning home he married Waunita ?Nita? Lindeen on July 18th, 1945 in Lake City. After his discharge on October 8, 1945 he returned to the U of M and earned his Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering on June 12, 1948. He worked at Northrop Aircraft in Hawthorne, CA for two years before returning to Lake City to as product engineer at Gillet and Eaton now Federal Mogul in Lake City for 37 « years, retiring in February of 1988. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and served as Superintendent of Sunday School for 12 years from 1958 to 1970, participated in the choir for over 40 years and served on various committees including church council and boards. He served on the Lake City School Board of Education for 7 years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 110, and Lake City Lions Club. He was a past member of the Society of Automatic Engineers and American Society of Tool Manufacturing Engineers. He is survived by his wife, two sons Robert Jr. (Molly) of Minneapolis, Richard of Lake City; four grandsons James, Ian, Christopher, and Andrew; a special family , the family of Debbie Mickelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Betty Deyo, and Kathryn Mahoney, one granddaughter, Colleen, and one grandson Adam. A Memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Darren Paulson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church. Military Rites will be performed by VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110 of Lake City.
