Robert "Bob" Burns Tubbesing

Robert "Bob" Burns Tubbesing, 92, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing after a short illness. He was born on May 9, 1921, in Red Wing, to Raymond Clinton and Gladys Leon (Burns) Tubbesing. Robert grew up in the Red Wing area and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1939. He then attended Macalester College School of Business. After his schooling, he served in the US Air Force and was stationed overseas. Following his discharge in 1945, he worked as a grain accountant for J.G. Dill Company in Wabasha. Robert married Zylpha Bannister in 1950 and within that union, they had two daughters. The couple later divorced. Robert began working for the City of Red Wing and eventually worked his way up to the city clerk-treasurer's position in the late 1960's, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1984. On May 6, 1967, Robert married DeLoris Smith Horlitz in the Twin Cities.

Robert was very involved in the community that he cared about. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a part of the RisersClub, Red Wing Kiwanis Golden K's from which he had received an Honorable Kiwanis award, Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post #218 and American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post #54. He was also a past city council member, along with other community groups that he loved to be a part of. Robert enjoyed golf, spending time with grandchildren, gardening, traveling and playing cards.

Robert is survived by his wife, DeLoris of Red Wing; three daughters, Pam Skorude of River Falls, WI, Dawn Tubbesing of Prescott, WI, Meredith (Tom) Everett of Zumbrota; a son, Larry (Pam) Horlitz of Red Wing; grandchildren, Heather (Richard) Rolland, Allison (Pete) Seidl, Chris (Mel) Everett, Katelyn (Carl) Callstrom; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Keira Rolland, Ava and Mia Seidl, Torin, Walter and Milton Callstrom and Alexis Everett. Robert is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 11 am on Friday, July 19, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 pm on Thursday, July 18, 2013 with a Legion prayer service at 7 pm at Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church.
