Robert John Tomforde, 58, of Lake City, died Tuesday at his home. He was born on September 2, 1948, in Lake City, to Emory and Marie (Hinck) Tomforde. He attended rural schools in Goodhue County and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1966. He served six years in the National Guard. On June 17, 1972, he was married to Marilyn Fitschen at Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence. They farmed for many years in the Frontenac and West Florence area. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence where he served on the church council. He also served on the Red Wing Technical College Advisory Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature, going for walks and being with his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two children, Jeremy (Shannon) Tomforde of Lake City and Tina (Justin) Thompson of Frontenac; two grandchildren, Jackson Tomforde and John Thompson; his mother, Marie Tomforde of Lake City; two brothers, Richard (Heidi) Tomforde of Star Prairie, Wisconsin and Lyle (Helen) Tomforde of Frontenac along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Emory and one brother, David Tomforde.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence with Reverend Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
