ROBERT H. SCHRIMPF
Robert Hoyer Schrimpf, age 89 of Lake City, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Lake City Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1924 along with his twin brother Ralph to Otto and Isabell (Hoyer) Schrimpf in Red Wing. He was confirmed on April 2, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran in Red Wing. Robert's family moved several times while growing up and he attended schools in Flower Valley and Hay Creek through 8th grade. After his schooling he began farming until he enlisted in the Army and left December 4, 1944 for Fort Snelling. He and his brother Ralph were stationed in the Philippines and later in Japan. Robert was honorably discharged on November 19, 1946. Upon returning from overseas he began farming with his brothers. He met Delores Strusz at a dance in Rochester and the two were married on September 29, 1962 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rural Goodhue. Robert and Ralph dairy farmed in partnership in rural Lake City until their retirement in 1990 at which time Robert and Delores moved into town. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City and the Lake City VFW Post #8729. Robert enjoyed bowling and playing cards, which he was extremely lucky at.
He is survived by his wife, Delores of Lake City; son, Dean (Lori) Schrimpf of Lino Lakes and daughter, Nancy (James) McCormick of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Emily and Victoria Schrimpf and Ryan and Halle McCormick; twin brother, Ralph (Lois) Schrimpf of Lake City; sister-in-law, Lois Schrimpf of Goodhue; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Isabell Schrimpf; siblings, Herbert Schrimpf, Mae Steffenhagen, Edwin Schrimpf, and August Schrimpf.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Daniel Kroll officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
