Robert Alvin Saupe

Robert Alvin Saupe, 84, of Hager City, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was born May 18, 1928 in Red Wing to Edward and Hazel (Peterson) Saupe. He attended country school in Wacouta and was a 1946 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a Morse code radio operator along the front lines. He married Phyllis Reinhard of Lake City on June 19, 1954. His vocations included the family owned Dutch Oven Tavern, owner/operator of Saupe's Old Style Distributing, counselor at Minnesota State Training School, head steward on the lounge car for Burlington Northern Railroad and owner/operator of the Driftwood Lounge in Red Wing. He and Phyllis moved to Hager City after retiring and they enjoyed living by the river and boating. The outdoors was his passion and he was an avid sports fan. He was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis of Red Wing; 3 devoted children, Denise Saupe of Minneapolis, Wendy Danzeisen of White Bear Lake and Craig Saupe of Kauai, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel and brother, W. Fred Saupe.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Wacouta Cemetery with Reverend Loren Lucht officiating. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church.
