Robert L. "Bob" Mowry, age 94, of Zumbrota, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Zumbrota Health Services. He was born on March 4, 1919, in Minneapolis, MN to Wallace and Elsie (nee Abel) Mowry. On June 2, 1941 he entered the U. S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II, was awarded the Purple Heart and honorably discharged on July 29, 1945. On September 27, 1946 he married Elizabeth M. "Betty" Dornacker at Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis for several years. In January 1948, they bought the State Theater in Zumbrota and operated it for 47 years. Robert was a sixty five year resident of Zumbrota and was a volunteer firefighter and school bus driver. Robert was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church, and the Zumbrota Golf Club. He enjoyed baseball, golf, and also enjoyed coffee with the boys. He was known for his quick dry wit.
Robert is survived by his son, Stephen (Sandy) Mowry of New Richmond, WI; daughter, Kathryn Mowry of Woodbury; several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife who died on September, 25, 2000 and brother Jack Mowry.
Memorial service will be at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor Tom Isaacson. Burial will be at a later date in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
