Robert "Bob" A. Minor, age 97 of Pine Island, formerly of Long Beach, California passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. The family is having a private service on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel with Pastor Darby Lawrence of Saint Pauls Lutheran Church, officiating.
Robert Anthony Minor was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on January 7, 1919 to James and Mary (Donahue) Minor. Bob grew up in Nebraska until his family moved to Los Angeles, California. Bob graduated from high school in Los Angeles in 1938. After high school Bob married Mora Saxe and had a daughter before joining the United States Air Force. In June on 1944, Bob graduated from Advance Pilot School in New Mexico, served as a 2nd Lieutenant and flew his beloved B-17. After the service Bob owned a gas station for several years. In 1964 his wife, Mora passed. Bob sold his gas station and started working in sales for a machinery company in California where he met Iris (Barnes) Hasson. They were married in February 1965. They continued to work together and travel the world until the 80's when they both retired. After retirement they did a lot of camping and traveling all over California, and continued to host all family events. In 2005 they moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. They lived off the Pine Island Golf Course where they enjoyed watching wild life and making friends at the Senior Center. Bob was a member of the Pine Island American Legion. Bob enjoyed yard work in California, telling stories, camping, and spending time with family.
Bob is survived by his wife, Iris of 52 years, daughter, Sandy Mayberry of Fort Collins, CO.; step-daughter, Sherry (Roger) Karlen of Pine Island; step-sons, Greg Hasson of Palmetto, FL., and Mark (Tammy) Hasson of Paso Robles, CA.; niece, Sister Patricia Peach of Pasadena, CA.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mora Minor; one sister; three brothers; son-in-law, Russ Mayberry; and niece, Janet Peach.
Memorials preferred to Pine Haven Care Center.
