Robert Stanley Magnuson, 92, of Red Wing, MN, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at Benedictine Living Community, St. Crispin’s, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on June 7, 1932, in Wabasha, MN, to Melvin and Olga (Hanson) Magnuson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from January 1953 to December 1954.
After his service, Bob began his lifelong career in the grocery business, starting with the National Tea Company in the early 1950s. His passion and dedication led him to own and operate Super Valu, later known as County Market, until its closure in 2004.
On May 5, 1956, Bob married the love of his life, Marvel Mary Stamschrorer. Together, they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, raising six beautiful children and creating a lifetime of cherished memories until her passing on February 13, 2002.
Bob had a love for golf, bowling, and his trips to Las Vegas, but nothing brought him more joy than a good pull tab at the Elks Lodge BPOE #845, where he was a proud member for 58 years. His kindness, generosity, and quick wit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his six children: Debra (Steve) Betterly of Venice, FL, Barbara (Jerry) Gosman of Red Wing, Sandra Anderson (Chris Ellis) of St. Paul, Robert (Renee) Magnuson of Paris, TN, Jeffrey (Kim) Magnuson of Zumbrota, and Laurie (Dave) Jonas of Red Wing; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; his brother, Melvin (Darlene) Magnuson of Wabasha; brother-in-law, Fr. Rob Stamschrorer of Winona
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marvel; his parents; and his siblings and their spouses: Katherine (Leon) Rostvold, Lyla (Howard) McDonough, Maxine (Sigfried) Petrich, and Mary (William) Fuchs.
A private family service will be held with burial at the Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of Bob’s life will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Red Wing Elks Lodge BPOE #845.
