Robert `Bobby` Luhman

Robert L. "Bobby" Luhman age 79 of Zumbrota died on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Janet Fischer of the Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 3:00 ? 6:00 P.M. at the Larson Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Robert Louis Luhman was born November 28, 1926 in Mason City, Iowa to John D. and Minnie (nee Pickett) Luhman. At the age of two his family returned to Zumbrota where he attended Zumbrota school and then country school through the 8th grade. Bobby spent time working for farmers, hauled canned milk for eleven years, and then worked as a cheesemaker for Mid America in Zumbrota retiring in 1990 after twenty-two years. He was married and later divorced. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 13, 1945 serving as Pfc. While being stationed in Japan during WW II he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged on January 10, 1947 and was a member of Stary-Yearka VFW Post #5727 of Zumbrota. Bobby enjoyed bowling, playing cards, country rides in his truck, shooting pool and fishing. He will be remembered for his quick-witted and wry sense of humor as well as storytelling about Zumbrota's past history and people. Bobby is survived by his brother, Ernie (Rose Lueck) Luhman of Zumbrota; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great grand-nieces and great grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walter and John; and five sisters, Lillian Luhman, Marion Mattson, Elizabeth Enevold, Gertrude Nagel, and Edith Haller. Memorials are suggested to the Wesleyan Church of Zumbrota or to the Cancer Society.
