Robert W. "Bob" Kettner

Robert W. "Bob" Kettner age 73, of Pine Island passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco with Pastor Benjamin Kempfert officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 - 1:00 PM at the church.
Robert Wayne Kettner was born on October 13, 1944 in Red Wing, MN to Lester and Dorothy (Wilde) Kettner. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. Bob started farming and on January 4, 1962 he entered the United States Marine Corp. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on April 10, 1964. After his discharge, Bob returned to the farm and resumed his farming career. On July 20, 1973 he married Marsha Vagt in New Hampton, IA. They made their home on the Kettner family farm. Bob farmed and later worked for the Mayo Clinic, doing evening custodial work. Bob retired from the Mayo Clinic in 2014 and continued to farm until his health began to fail.
Bob was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco and the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 in Pine Island. Bob enjoyed watching western shows and movies, going to auctions and attending anything patriotic, especially involving the Marine Corp.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marsha, children, Jennifer (Andrew) Reeves of Mankato, Christa Kettner of Pine Island, Jeremy (Erica) Kettner of Zumbrota and Jonathan (Cheryl) Kettner of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Alanna and Quinn Reeves, Allison Kettner, Annabelle Kettner and Quadyn Kettner; and sisters, Lois Silker and Phyllis Crawford, both of Pine Island.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Dorothy, grandson, Hunter Bergo, step-father, Palmer Wellvang and brother-in-law, Ken Silker.
