Robert Allen Kalass

A memorial service for Robert ‘Bob' Kalass will be held Friday July 20th at 1:00 PM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. The Reverend Tom Isaacson will officiate. Burial of the urn will follow at the Zumbrota Cemetery. Mr. Kalass, 76, of Zumbrota, died Wednesday July 16, 2012 at his home in Zumbrota.
Robert Allen Kalass was born August 28, 1935 in Red Wing, the son of Harry and Dorothy Kalass. Raised in Zumbrota, he was a graduate of Zumbrota High School in 1953. He was a graduate of Saint Olaf College in Northfield in 1957, where he participated in Football and Track. After Saint Olaf, he completed his Master's Degree at Eastern New Mexico University. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving overseas, for a time. He married Pat Lexvold on August 16, 1958 in Zumbrota. Bob worked for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and then in Rochester and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He returned to Zumbrota in 1965 and went into business with E.B. Rockne in the agency that would ultimately become the Kalass Agency, which he operated for more than 40 years, serving the Zumbrota and surrounding area's insurance and real estate needs. Bob was committed to improving the community of Zumbrota and participated in numerous community activities. His efforts led to the establishment of ambulance service in Zumbrota, which serves many neighboring communities. He was a volunteer with the Zumbrota Fire Department, and was a past-president of the Zumbrota Golf Club. He was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Kalass, of Zumbrota; two sons, Scott (Ann) Kalass of Northville, Michigan, and Todd (Patty) Kalass of Kingwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Erik Kalass, Haley Kalass, Katherine Kalass, and Natalie Kalass; and a sister, Nancy Autio, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
