Robert J. Anderson age 79 of Chesaning, MI formerly of Lake City died November 11, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Robert was born April 13, 1929 in Red Wing, MN to Allen M. & Laura (Carlon) Anderson. Robert graduated from Red Wing High School. He joined the Army in 1946 and served during the WWII occupation forces, Korean War and during Vietnam. He married Susan Anderson August 29, 1951 in Rochester. After the Korean War they lived throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East. He retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant in 1968. During his years of service he received the Bronze Star in Vietnam in 1967 and he was on the first helicopter flight to the South Pole. After he retired the family moved to Lake City where he served as the Ambulance Director for 17 years retiring in 1989. Susan passed away December 23, 2000.He married Sally Olson September 12, 2002 in Saginaw, MI, and they lived in Saginaw in the summer and spent their winters in Rio Hondo, TX. He enjoyed working in his workshop, fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, five daughters, Dawn (Richard) Baker of Oak Grove, KY, Kim (Steven) Mundy of Round Rock, TX, Sherry (Jim) Storing of Glenwood, IA, Kathleen Olson of Birch Run, MI, Kim (Bruce) Bradley of Montrose, MI; a son William (Becky) Anderson of Heidelberg, Germany, 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother William R (Louann) Anderson of Red Wing; sister Bette Blattner of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Susan, son Bruce and a brother Allen Jr. Anderson.

A Graveside Service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis Friday, November 14, 2008 at 12:00. Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City.
