Obituary: Robert Harper


Funeral services for Robert R. Harper will be at 2 PM on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the United Methodist Church of Pine Island with Reverend Greg Struck officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Island Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Robert Raymond Harper, age 77, of Rochester died on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Golden Living Center - Rochester West. He was born on August 13, 1930 in New Haven Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota to Raymond and Anna (Berg) Harper. He attended rural country school in Goodhue County and graduated from Pine Island High School. Robert entered the U. S. Army and during his tenure was married to Mary Ann Jenkins on May 15, 1954 in Richmond, VA. Following his discharge, the family returned to Pine Island where Robert worked as a Police Officer for 12 years. He was custodian and a bus driver for the Pine Island School System for 20 years before retiring in 1987. Mary died on July 23, 1985. He was a member of United Methodist Church, the Senior Citizens Centers of Rochester and Pine Island, a member of Charles Cowden Post #184 of the American Legion in Pine Island, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge of Pine Island, and the MN Grange ? New Hope Sod Busters, of Byron. He loved to dance.

Robert is survived by his son, Mark Harper, of Delafield, WI; two daughters: Joan (Kraig) King, of Oronoco, MN and Kim (Carl) Hagen, of Austin, MN; five grandchildren: Joe and Kristen Ryan, Justine, Grant and Annika Harper; two brothers: Donavon Harper and Kenneth (Neletta) Harper, all of Rochester, MN; two sisters: Janice (Richard) Erwin, of Douglas, MN and Lavonne (Richard) Macken, of Ocala, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
