Age 81 of Red Wing, Minnesota, formerly of Bridgeport, Michigan

Born on April 8, 1928, died on Sunday, February 28 due to complications related to Alzheimer's. Son of Herman and Lena Haas, he is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan; children Jeffrey, David (Helen), Colleen (Mary), his brother William (Ann), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Raised and schooled in Bridgeport, Michigan, he graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan (1947) and studied at Saginaw Business College and music at Central Michigan University (1947-49). He served as a Chaplains Assistant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, being stationed at Ft. McCoy in Wisconsin, and during that time also studied Church Music in New Rochelle, New York. An avid gardener, he was employed by The Baker Perkins Corporation and The Music Center, both in Saginaw, and was a teacher of piano and music theory at his home studio and at Delta College, also in Saginaw. He was active as a member of the Saginaw Piano Teachers Forum, during which time he was awarded Piano Teacher of the Year. He was a member and honoree with the Michigan Music Teachers Association, and was a member of the Music Education National Conference, the National Music Teachers Association, and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. He was an accompanist for several high school and community theatre musical productions, and served as an organist and pianist at several churches in Michigan: Bridgeport Community Church in Bridgeport; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Saginaw; St. Christopher's Church in Bridgeport; and St. Roch's Church in Caseville. Funeral celebrations are as follows: An evening of music and prayer Thursday evening, March 4th at 7:30 p.m., and the Funeral Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5th, preceded by time of visitation from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. All at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 426 - 8th Street, Red Wing, Minnesota. Burial of remains will take place at a later date to be determined, in Bridgeport, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or to Music Ministry Alive, 1595 Blackhawk Lake Drive, Eagan, MN 55122.
