Robert Clarence Gisslen, 87, of Red Wing died Thursday, February 15, 2007, at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. He was born October 22, 1919 in Red Wing to Nicholas and Sophie (Eskala) Gisslen and graduated Red Wing Central High School in 1937. In September of 1941 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until being honorably discharged in September of 1945. He married Rosella Mae Sather on April 29, 1944 at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. He worked at NSP reading meters until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage, fishing and gardening. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 and the Mississippi National Golf Links. He is survived by his wife, Rosella of Red Wing; two children, Judith Nelson of Red Wing and Paul (Nell) Gisslen of the Philippines; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Steve and 2 brothers, Lloyd and Ernest. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at United Lutheran Church with the Reverend Clark Cary officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be his grand and great-grandchildren, Donna Polski, Nathan Nelson, Tate, Judge, Reid and Stephanie Gisslen, Jennifer Drew, Derek Nelson, Mikayla Polski and Elsie Drew. Visitation will be for one hour prior the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
