Robert D. Geise age 78 of Rochester, formerly of Pine Island died on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at his home in Rochester. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Assembly of God Church in Rochester with Pastor Ernest Gafkjen officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery with military honors provided by the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 of Pine Island. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert Duane Geise was born on August 13, 1932 in rural Berne, MN to Peter and Violet (nee Alexander) Geise. He grew up on the family farm and attended Oak Ridge country school. In 1950 he graduated from Pine Island High School. On September 10, 1952 he entered the U.S. Army. While home on leave he married Mary Jean Noser on December 28, 1952 in Pine Island. Robert served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on May 10, 1954. They returned to the Berne area where they farmed and Bob also worked as a meat cutter for the City Meat Market in Pine Island. They moved to Albert Lea for one year where Robert worked at Wilson Meat Packing. They returned to Pine Island and Robert worked for Erdmann�'¢?TMs as a meat cutter for a short time. In 1967 Robert started working for People's Natural Gas Co. Mary Jean died on May 31, 1992. On June 18, 1994 he married Miriam Westlund. Robert retired in 1995. During retirement, Robert remained active volunteering for ten years with MAPS, doing hospice work, and he was past commander of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 in Pine Island. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, woodworking and throwing horseshoes.
Robert is survived by his wife Miriam; sons, Tim (Mona) Geise of Rochester and Randy (Jennie) Geise of Bay Village, OH; grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Bauman of Las Vegas, NV, Hillary (Caleb) Schauder of Vacaville, CA, Hannah Geise of Rochester, Tyler Geise, Mary Grace Geise, and Sydney Geise all of Bay Village, OH; great-granddaughter, Morgan Ruport of Las Vegas, NV, daughter of the heart, Voncille Martin of Jackson, MS and sister, Gloria Feigal of Lake City. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean, his parents and sister, Marilyn Wyttenbach. Casketbearers are Dan and Chuck Stucky, Dave Butman, Bud Fitting, Phil Bradford and Mike Fogarty. Honorary bearers are partners of the Red Eye Ranch. Memorials are preferred to the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 in Pine Island.
