Robert Dale Dillon

December 12, 1924 — January 18, 2016

A memorial service for Robert 'Bob' Dale Dillon will be held Saturday May 7th at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Slayton. Pastor Chad Setter will officiate. Mr. Dillon of Rochester, MN died on January 18, 2016 after a challenging battle with dementia. He was 91 years old. Bob was born on December 12, 1924 in Kewanee Illinois, the son of Frank and Lena (Livek) Dillon. Bob graduated from high school at the age of 16 and was employed as a farm hand and then in an artillery plant. He moved to Worthington, Minnesota in 1947 and was employed at Mahlberg Alignment. At the Lakefield roller skating rink he met Betty Hartman and they were married on October 10, 1948. They resided in Slayton, Minnesota where Bob worked as an automotive mechanic and then opened Dillon's Alignment in 1952 until his retirement in 1982.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He particularly enjoyed hunting ducks, pheasants and deer; and could often be found searching for the elusive walleye. He was well known for his wild game feeds which often featured "rocky mountain oysters". He enjoyed snowmobiling and weekend races. Bob also excelled in bowling and was a top notch pitcher in fast pitch softball. His family, friends and caregivers will remember his sense of humor and numerous one-liners. Bob was a generous, kind hearted man who enjoyed helping others.
Bob will be dearly missed by his surviving wife Betty, children Kathleen (Glenn) Aguilar, Kevin (Cathy) Dillon, Kari Dillon; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two infant baby boys, his parents and son-in-law (Joe Bob Johnson).
A special thank you to the Cottagewood Senior Community staff in Cottages five and two for their loving care and support. A celebration of life service will be held this spring in Slayton, Minnesota.
Message just received from Bob: "Although I'm no longer with you I am very close by; please remember the good times and try not to cry. I am walking with the Lord and happy to be in heaven; I just found out from God the limit on pheasants is seven!"
