Robert E. Diepenbrock age 83 of Lake City died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Lake City Nursing Home. Robert was born February 18, 1923 in Lake City to Grover & Cecil (Rill) Diepenbrock. Robert graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City. He then married Helen Katzner September 10, 1946; at El Toro Marine Corps Base in Santa Anna, Calif. Robert enlisted with the Marine Corps on January 26, 1942. He served in the Asiatic & Pacific Theater during WWII. After WWII ended they continued living at El Toro Marine Corps Base until he retired from the USMC in 1961 with the rank of Master Sergeant. They returned to Lake City where he owned and operated Pepin Outboard in Lake City until selling the business in 1983. Helen died November 27, 1997. Robert was a member of the Lake City VFW Post 8729, and Fleet Marine Reserve Branch 136. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and many out door activities. He is survived by his son Stuart of Lake City; two brothers William (Marge) of Lake City, and John (Sandy) of Pueblo, Colorado; one sister Arlene (Lyle) Rutz of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers Donald and Richard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:30 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lake City with Father James Russell officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service. Local military rites will be handled by American Legion Post 110 and VFW Post 8729.
