Robert C. "Bob" Albrecht age 73 of Pine Island died on Saturday, November 07, 2009 at his home in Pine Island. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Kip Groettum and Rev. John Torris Lohre co-officiating. Inurnment will be in Zumbrota Cemetery with Military honors provided by Chas. Cowden American Legion Post #184. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert Clarence Albrecht was born on August 11, 1936 in South St. Paul, MN to Orval and Lucille (nee Weiderholt) Albrecht. He grew up in Pine Island and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1954. On September 15, 1959 he entered the U.S. Army. He was a Morse code operator while serving in Nurnberg, Germany. After his honorable discharge on August 29, 1961 he returned to the Pine Island area. On April 28, 1962 he married La Vonne "Vonnie" Stechmann at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They made their home in Zumbrota for a short time before settling in Pine Island. Bob worked at Rite Way T.V. in Rochester, Eddie's T.V. and Duane's T.V. in Zumbrota before starting his own shops; Bob's Radio and T.V. and T.V. Service Center in Pine Island. In Sept of 1973 they moved to a lake home on Wymer Lake near Frazee. They returned to Pine Island in August of 1978. Bob played fast pitch softball for Stechmann's Bar and the Blue Goose in Zumbrota, amateur baseball for the Zumbrota town team and was on a lot of horseshoe teams. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting, baseball, MN Viking's football, MN Wild Hockey and loved country, Gospel and old time music.. He was a Pine Island Auxiliary Policeman, President of the Businessman's Club, foster parent, member of the Pine Island Volunteer Firefighters and Chas. Cowden American Legion Post #184. Bob is survived by his loving wife of forty seven years, La Vonne "Vonnie"; one son, Todd Robert Albrecht of Larchwood, IA; three daughters, Dawn Marie (Todd) Amato of Andover, Debra Jean (Kevin) Newman of North Mankato, and Joyce Ann Christensen of Pine Island; seven grandchildren, Ryan Amato of Mankato, Sarah Amato of Roseville, Sgt. Aaron (Colleen) Albrecht of Vista, CA, Alyssa and Aszhia Albrecht, both of Larchwood, IA and Kaitlyn and Matthew Newman, both of North Mankato; one brother, Jerry (Roxanne) Albrecht of Excelsior; three sisters, Beverly Griebenow of Pine Island, Karen (Don) Anderson of Pine Hurst, NC., and Susan (Bill) Catchings of Minneapolis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Dick Dahl of Owatonna and Larry and Cheryl Stechmann of Baxter and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his special loving and caring mother, who raised him; Evelyn (Lindeman) Albrecht, brother, Don (D.W.) Albrecht, son-in-law, Mike Christensen, brother-in-law, Don Griebenow, father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Margaret Stechmann, his pet pig "Gus" and pet dogs "Lady" and "German". Memorials are preferred to the family.
