Rita M. Zimmermann, age 78, of Zumbrota died on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Marys Campus. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne D. Schoch officiating. Private family burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery - Bear Valley. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the church.
Rita Mae Hofschulte was born on March 3, 1938 in Bellechester, MN to George and Leona (nee Fuhrman) Hofschulte. Rita grew up in Mazeppa. On February 11, 1960 she married Derald Oelkers at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home in Mazeppa and were later divorced. Rita started working at the Coast to Coast Store in Zumbrota. On March 5, 1988, she married Myron L. Zimmermann at St. John's Lutheran Church - Minneola. Together they farmed and Rita continued to work at Coast to Coast until it closed. Rita started working as a waitress at the Coffee Mill Restaurant. Myron died on May 3, 2000 and Rita continued working at the restaurant until retiring in 2003. After retiring, Rita stayed busy helping raise her grandkids, mowing grass and tending to the goats on the farm.
Rita is survived by her son, Terry (Laura) Oelkers of Rochester; daughter, Jean (Dennis) Moyer of Pine Island; stepchildren, Bill (Leanna) Zimmermann of Red Wing and Stacey (Jason) Rudoy of Edina; grandchildren, Bennett and Jordan Oelkers, Michaela and Brady Newell and Alyssa Moyer; step grandchildren, Michael, Jesse and Elizabeth Cox and Samantha and Sophia Rudoy; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard (Judy) Hofschulte of Mazeppa and Leonard (Gloria) Hofschulte of Lake City; sisters, Doreen Pahl of Zumbrota, Marcy Burt of Oronoco and Irene (Walt) Schultz of Rochester.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Myron, parents, and brothers, Francis and Donald.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
