Richard V. Wells, "Wanbdi Wičaȟčada" 65, of Prairie Island, died Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his home. He was born September 8, 1953, in Red Wing, to Leo and Beatrice (Shanawo) Wells. He grew up in South Minneapolis and attended Northwestern Electronics Institute. He worked for a number of years at RCA in Jacksonville, Florida and then for a roofing company. He also was employed at Prairie Island Housing Development. He was active in his native community as a Pipe Carrier.
He is survived by his former wife, Suzy Strauss; 4 children, Denise, James (Sasha), Charrise (Carl) and Monique; sister, Lylis (Loren) Wells and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joshua Nepoose and a daughter, Janelle Nepoose; 2 sisters, Janice and Denise and 3 brothers, Dennis, Charlton and Jody.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Prairie Island Community Center. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, with an evening prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Church of the Messiah Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
