A memorial service for Dick Thompson will be held Tuesday August 1st at 11:00 AM at Byron United Methodist Church in Byron. The Rev. Beth Perez will officiate. Burial will follow at the Byron Cemetery, and visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Thompson, 91, a lifelong resident of Byron, died Thursday July 27, 2017 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
Richard Lloyd "Dick" Thompson was born May 17, 1926 in Byron, the son of Seward and Alice (Haugen) Thompson. He married Helen Elizabeth Sykes on December 29, 1945 at Byron United Methodist Church, where he and his wife continued to be members. With his father, Dick operated the family farm. He also worked in custodial service at Mayo Clinic, was a truck driver for Rochester Dairy, and a bus driver for the Byron schools. He enjoyed fishing, trips to the casino, and going for coffee every morning.
Dick is survived by his wife, Helen Thompson of Byron; two sons, Ron (Glenda) Thompson of Byron, and Tom (Janet) Thompson of Maple Valley, Washington; a daughter, Roxanne (Keith) Stolp of Rochester; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verleen Bungum of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Thompson.
