Richard S. Sigrist, age 78, of Pine Island died on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at his home.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne with the Reverend Victor Jortack officiating. The visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday May 31 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Berne Cemetery.
Richard Stanley Sigrist was born on September 12, 1931 to Arnold and Susanna (Moe) Sigrist in Pleasant Valley, Pine Island. He attended grades 1-8 at Pleasant Valley School House and graduated from West Concord High School in 1949. Richard farmed with his parents in Roscoe. In 1952 he married Evonne Glamm and lived with his parents on the farm. They spent one year in Cambridge and South Saint Paul where he worked at Seeger Refrigerator Company before returning to the family farm, which he purchased from his parents. The couple was later divorced. He moved to Pine Island and worked part time at Zumbrota Golf Course until he had to leave due to injury. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and attending his grandchildren's high school events.
Richard is survived by his five children, Randy (Deb) Moe of Elko, Pamela Sigrist, Micky Sigrist, Cindy (Lee) Swanson, and Jody (Deb) Sigrist, all of Pine Island; special friend Alyce Bradshaw; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and his son, Thomas.
Memorials may be directed to the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne.
The casket bearers will be Michael Moe, Richard Sigrist, Dakota Sigrist, Brad Swanson, Patrick Smith, and Chris Wilhelm.
