Richard G. Powers, 77, of Red Wing, died Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born December 26, 1928 in Ellsworth to Edward and Alice (Northey) Powers. He attended country schools near Red Wing and helped his father with farming. He joined the US Army in June of 1952 and served during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in March of 1954 and then began a career in construction. He was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. He enjoyed drinking coffee, visiting with friends and watching old western movies. He is survived by his son, Shawn Powers of Goodhue: two grandsons, Ben and Aaron Powers of Ellsworth; a special friend Marcella Cook of Red Wing; and one brother, David (Eleanor) Powers of Black River Falls, Wisc. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Powers and his sister, Betty Kells. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Hay Creek Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard, Mike, Morris and Neil Holst, and James and Robin Roper. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ben and Aaron Powers. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
