Richard Loren Peters

Richard Loren Peters, 79, of Red Wing, died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at St. Crispin Living Community Care Center in Red Wing. He was born August 10, 1937, in Adrian, Minn. to Herman and Gertie (Loger) Peters. He graduated from Adrian High School, attended Mankato State College where he earned his bachelor's degree in education and then received his master's degree from Winona State College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1964. On July 7, 1972, he married Bonnie Blanck. He was a teacher in Butterfield, Minn. before moving to Red Wing, where he taught Industrial Arts at Twin Bluff Middle School until retiring in1996. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post #1218 and was involved in the Boy Scouts. Richard enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three brothers, Robert (Linda) of Adrian, Minn., Curtis (Blanche) of Winona, Minn. and Dennis (Judy) of Slayton, Minn. as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Melvin, Harold, Kenneth, LeRoy, Dwayne and Delmar.
Mass of Resurrection will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing. Memorials are preferred to the Boy Scouts Troop 32 in Red Wing, Mayo Red Wing Hospice, the Church of St. Joseph or donor's choice.
