Richard L. "Dick" Nei, 75, of Pine Island died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Rochester Methodist Hospital following a four month battle with cancer. He was born July 9, 1930 in Borup, Minnesota. He moved to Pine Island with his parents at an early age and attended school in Pine Island. Dick married Shirley Moorehouse of Hastings, Minnesota on April 14, 1954. She passed away June 26, 1968. Dick was employed at Rochester Silo Company and George Baumgartner Block and Cement Co. He also worked for the City of Pine Island, Zumbrota and Larry Kautz Trucking. He served in the United States Army on active duty for four years and four years reserve to complete eight years of service. Dick was a member of the American Legion Charles Cowden Post #184 in Pine Island for 53 years, where he served as the Post Commander. In 1976, Dick married Clarice Sigrist. He enjoyed fishing and sports. Dick is survived by his wife, Clarice of Pine Island; three sons, Clayton (Peggy) Nei of Cato, Wisconsin, Bryan (Angela) Nei of Huron, South Dakota and Steve Nei of Pine Island; four daughters, Bonnie (Fred) Hill of Hudson, Wisconsin, Marcia (Max) Khan of Killeen, Texas, Chris (Jeff) Henry of Chatfield, and Pamela Hamlin of Hudson, Wisconsin; one step-daughter, Nancy Estrem of Wanamingo; one brother, Walter Nei of Hastings; four sisters, Loretta Maxon of Justice, Illinois, Verona Davis of Rochester, Elizabeth Horstmann of Rochester and Margaret Nei of Pine Island; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, five sisters, one daughter and one son. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel in Pine Island with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles Cowden Post #184 of Pine Island. Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel, Pine Island.
