Richard "Dick" C. Navratil

Richard "Dick" Navratil age 83, of Pine Island passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 11 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Darby Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
Richard Charles Navratil was born on March 17, 1933 in Alexandria, MN. His adoptive parents, John and Margaret Navratil raised him and his step-brothers in the Alexandria area. Dick graduated from Alexandria High School in 1951. After high school he joined the United States Army in 1951. Dick served as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge in 1954 he returned to Alexandria and worked for the Area Dock Resorts. He soon met Jan Thorson and they were married on July 5, 1958 after she had finished teaching school, and he had finished engineering school for IBM in New York. Dick bought into Pine Plating in 1965. He started working for IBM in Rochester, MN in 1970, and sold his interest in Pine Plating in 1985. Dick remained in the Pine Island area where he was a volunteer fire fighter for 26 years, a member of the Pine Island American Legion, Stary Yerka VFW Post 5727 in Zumbrota, and the Osman Shrine in Rochester. Dick was an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
Dick also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, restoring old cars, motorcycles, dragon patrol for parades, helping others, going to grandchildren's activities and spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his children, Julie (Britt) Bjugan of Pine Island, Jon (Karen) Navratil of Annandel, Mary Beth (Patrick) Pike of Pine Island; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; step brothers, Paul (Pat), David (Caroline), and Phillip (Colleen) Navratil; several half siblings and one full brother, Dave Goulette.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Jan, his biological parents, and his adoptive parents.
