Richard Lawrence Miller

February 3, 1929 — December 2, 2013

Richard was born on February 3, 1929, in Oak Center, MN to Lawrence and Anetta (Nibbe) Miller. On March 7, 1929 he was baptized and on March 29, 1942 was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran - Lincoln in rural Lake City. He was a graduate of Lake City High School. On August 28, 1951 Richard entered the US Army. He served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1953. After his discharge, he married Doris Hinrichs on September 20, 1953. They farmed in Oak Center from 1953 to 1964 and they moved to Zumbrota after purchasing their current farm. Together the family helped with the dairy and crop farming. In 1994, Richard was injured in a car accident and suffered a head injury. He continued to farm with the help of his sons until the last couple years. For a short period of time Richard resided at the Zumbrota Health Services, he became critically ill and he was at St. Marys Hospital for two weeks. After his health improved he returned to the nursing home. Richard passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2013. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. Richard had previously served as a council member of Trinity Lutheran Church - Lincoln in rural Lake City and also on its church cemetery board. Richard was also a member of the Farmers Union, Stary - Yerka VFW Post #5727, and served as a 4-H Dairy Leader. He had a loving personality, was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He especially loved family gatherings and he also enjoyed dancing, fishing, farming and listening to music, especially old time music.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Doris Miller; children, John (Lisa) Miller of Zumbrota, Ruth (Jay) Heineman of Estes Park, CO, Paul (Lynn) Miller of Racine, Mary (Glen) Roberson of Mazeppa, Charles (Tara) Miller of Zumbrota, Eric (Verone) Miller of Zumbrota, Elizabeth (Joe) Klingsporn of Pine Island, Jerome (Trisha) Miller of Zumbrota, Jeffrey (Heidi) Miller of Goodhue, Matthew (Stephanie) Miller of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Ross, Nolan and Geena Miller, Teresa Hulst and Kiel Davis, Amanda, Andrew, Amy and Aricka Roberson, Celeste, Chayse and Colte Miller, Tyana Olson and Brenna Thomas, Emily, Adam, and Alayna Klingsporn, Lauren, Ethan and Aaron Miller, Parker and Easton Miller, Darby, Atticus, Rhett and Beatrix Miller, Karsten and Gannon Miller; great-grandchildren, Brody and Luke Hulst and Eli Davis.

Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Anne Lemke.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery with military honors provided by Stary - Yerka VFW Post #5727. Visitation will be on Sunday for two hours prior to the service at the church.
