ROCHESTER ? A memorial service for Richard C. Martin will be 11 am Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Rochester Chapel with Rev. Gregory Havel of St. Bernard?s Catholic Church of Stewartville officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Wm. T. McCoy Post 92 of the American Legion. Interment will be in Hammond Cemetery at a later date. Dr. Martin, a retired Optometrist, died Tuesday (Feb.21, 2006) at the Stewartville Care Center where he had resided for the past three years. Born Oct. 11, 1926 in Albert Lea, MN he entered the US Navy in 1942 during WW II. After being discharged he attended the College of Optometry in Chicago. In 1951 he married Arlene Soderberg in Crystal Falls, MI. After practicing Optometry in both Iowa and Minnesota the couple moved to Rochester in 1963. He was employed as an Optometrist at Duling Optical, retiring in 1996. He was one of the founding fathers of the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club of Rochester. He enjoyed airplanes, motorcycling, snowmobiling, water skiing, bicycling, and camping. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sherrie (Doug) Opsahl of Rochester; and Mary (Jim) Northway of Hastings, MN; two sons, Wayne (Mary Ellyn) of Glenwood, MN; and John (Greta) of Millville, MN; his sister Elizabeth (Francis) LaVallie of Woodbury, MN; eleven grandchildren; and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by a son and grandson. Friends may call one hour before the service on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson?s Research.
