Richard "Dick" Markee, 74, of Rochester, passed away on July 2, 2012 at home after fighting a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Rev. Paul Bauch officiating.
Dick was born September 26, 1937, to Floyd and Gladys Markee, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He attended Rochester High School. He married Nancy Greten and they were later divorced. He married Joanne Yennie Halverson on April 22, 1983. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary in Maui, Hawaii.
Dick worked for the U.S. Postal Service from November 1965 through his retirement in September 2002. He also was a great mechanic, and kept busy helping everyone with their break downs! In retirement he loved to metal detect, fish, visit his children, vacation (every day was Saturday), work on cars, lawnmowers, and take road trips. Dick loved going for lunch with the "old guys" (Uncle Bert, Lyle, and George) twice a week. He was member of Peace United Church of Christ and the American Postal Workers Union.
Dick is survived by his wife, Joanne; nine children: Randy (Kathy) Markee; Robert Markee; Raymond Markee - all of Rochester; Roxanne (Greg) Markee-Lubinski of Plainview; Heidi Halverson of Rochester; Chad (Lorrie) Halverson of Wilson, NC; Alyssa Halverson (Lannon Turowski) of San Diego, CA; Nessa Adreon of Byron; and Rick (Rachel) Markee of Rochester, MN; along with fifteen grandchildren, and one granddaughter due in October; ten great-grandchildren; his sister Beverly (Reuben) Raymond of Arlington, WA; three nieces; two great nieces; two great nephews; and two great-great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father - Gladys and Floyd Markee.
Visitation will be Friday, July 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, 1624 37th Street N.W., and one hour before the funeral service on Saturday, July 7, at 1:00 pm at Peace United Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society; Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Rochester; or Peace United Church of Christ.
